Lower Level 2.0

A 2000s basement you can walk into. There is a working DOS terminal on the desk, Xbox-style achievements pop on the TV, Snake runs on a Nokia, the windows show the real weather outside, and a cat wanders the rooms on its own.

What is down here

Six things to find in the basement

  • 01

    The BasementOS terminal

An 80-column DOS screen on an old beige PC. It boots like a real one, then opens 12 apps you move through with a cursor: high scores, games, weather, the changelog, stories, music, stats and more.

  • 02

    Achievements

Visit, stay and play to unlock them. Each one pops up on the TV with a sound and its gamerscore, Xbox 360 style, and your progress is saved in VRChat, so it is still there next time.

  • 03

    Snake on the Nokia

A playable Snake on a Nokia phone. The phone keeps the top 5 scores in the room, and a global leaderboard collects the best runs from every copy of the world.

  • 04

    Rags, the cat

A cat that walks the basement on its own: it watches the theater TV, gets the zoomies, stares at walls, jumps on things and naps. The terminal has an app, RAGS.EXE, with its stats.

  • 05

    Real weather

The windows show rain or snow when it is raining or snowing outside, with a seasonal filter, and a soft ambient rain when the weather is dry.

  • 06

    Games and posters

A blackjack table, Soda Shake, the theater, and posters on the walls that update from the web without a new world upload.

The changelog on the terminal

The terminal's CHANGELOG app reads this from the web, so it changes without a new world upload. These lines are copied from it.

2/21 Snake speed and scoring adjusted to be more accurate
2/21 Basement Bash poster hung: a Snake high score battle
2/19 Furniture updated; audio is now spatial per room
2/05 The Nokia keeps the top 5 Snake scores
2/05 SCORES app added: see where you stand

Live, and still being built

The world is up and people visit it. The goal now is the first milestone: friends play it start to end on their own and say what they think. The milestones page has the live numbers.

In the world nowLIVEThe terminal and its apps, achievements, the Nokia and its global Snake leaderboard, the cat, weather and rain, posters, blackjack, Soda Shake.
Basement FeudBRANCHA Family Feud parody for the SNES look, playable on one screen with buzzers and a keyboard. Code and 43 questions are written; about a third of the art is real. The prefab has not been built in Unity yet, so it is not in the world.
Audio visualizerBRANCHA 10-band spectrum on a second monitor that moves with the music. Written, not merged.
Arcade frameworkDESIGNA plan for reusable arcade cabinets in VRChat, with five game ideas: beat-em-up, shoot-em-up, a versus falling-block game, a pseudo-3D racer and a maze chase.
Quest and PCOPENAll work happens in the Quest project. Keeping the PC version in step is a known open job.
